SimplyBridal Releases the Top 5 Wedding Dress Trends of 2011

Posted on 9th January 2012 in Wedding Bouquets

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) December 15, 2011

Simplybridal.com is the place to check out exquisite handcrafted wedding dresses at competitive prices. With the year almost over, SimplyBridal is releasing its list of top five wedding trends of 2011.

This year was a reflective one for weddings, said Harper Butler, the SimplyBridal media contact. Although there is a strong push for individuality, many brides are looking at past eras, old photographs, and family history for bridal inspiration.

SimplyBridal’s Top 5 Wedding Dress Trends of 2011

1. Celebrity Style

Although celebrity weddings have always been fascinating, in 2011 several designers released dresses in similar styles. One key example is Alfred Angelo’s recreation of Bella Swan’s dress from the movie Breaking Dawn, and the several imitations of Kate Middletons Alexander McQueen gown that were created within hours of the big event.

In an unexpected twist, Pippa Middleton’s dress had major crossover power. Not only was white the hottest new color in for bridesmaids but many brides went with Pippa’s sleek style.

2. Rustic Romance

This year the princess bride made a reappearance, but instead of voluminous ball gowns, more brides are drawn to royal touches like sumptuous textures, ornate details, and tiaras. Soft feminine touches like sweetheart necklines and mermaid silhouettes are often matched with cowboy boots or sandals.

3. Vintage Antique

While something old and something borrowed has been a traditional part of a wedding for years, it has recently bloomed as a defining wedding style. Brides are making bouquets from grandma’s brooch collection or even recreating weddings from old family photographs.

Hit TV shows like Prohibition-era Boardwalk Empire and 60s styled Mad Men have caused a resurgence of vintage styled wedding and bridesmaid gowns.

4. Get Shorty

While many brides change into a simple short gown for the reception, others are skipping the big wedding gowns all together. Trends include dresses with minimal trains, mini dresses, and even the mullet dress, which exposes the legs in front but is full length from the back.

5. More than White

Reese Witherspoon recently wore a pink gown at her wedding, but shes not the first bride to make that choice. Many designers have created gowns with colorful accents like a bright sash or beading.
